long after it ends

i look up from my knees

out into your eyes

as something is sparked

in the dark of this sleeping mind

over the black silhouettes

and into your closed-off heart

carried by the swell of your words

you wrote this past year

go under my skin

and fade into the air

notes linger on as you pull your

hands through your hair

and when i look around

i’m in a dim-lit crowd

carried by swells of your words

you wrote when you woke up

i can feel you strike a chord

that vibrates me within

a little goes a long way

we lock eyes in connection

once i go back to the ground

and my quiet white walls

get the curtain closed

and slip under my familiar covers

but closing off the people

and closing off the feed

isn’t shaking off all the melody

that stays with me

Back to words
